5 reasons to subscribe

To subscribe or not to subscribe? That is the question. And to help you decide, to convince you that the first option is the best of the two, we will put forward our best arguments. Here, then, are some subscriberexclusive advantages and some of the great moments of this season designed to challenge, surprise and unite.

1. A critique of our image-based society
This theme is completely relevant, and meaningful to many Vancouverites: gentrification, access to property, overconsumption and, in the end, emptiness. Written by Guillaume Corbeil, Unité Modèle is the last part of a trilogy that started with Cinq visages pour Camille Brunelle (2012) and Tu iras la chercher (2014). Guillaume Corbeil’s writing is surprising, disconcerting, biting. You will be as eager as we are to discover the staging devised by Philippe Cyr, a rising star among stage directors in Montréal…

2. A multi-sensory journey to Kinshasa
Would an evening at the theatre that offers you the opportunity to breathe in the delicious aroma of exotic foods prepared on stage, to be carried far away on the beat of the music, to meet the author of the novel who happens to be playing her own character, and to learn about the culture, the society, the political challenges, and daily life in the Congo entice you? How about a rare and authentic account of exile, of dreaming of another place, and of the trials of immigration? This is the rich and vivid experience—full of colours, flavours, emotions, and humour—that Bibish de Kinshasa offers, this fall.

3. Several television and movie stars take the stage!
Québec actor, author and animator Christian Bégin will be performing at the Waterfront Theatre two nights only, just for you. The author of the tragicomedy Pourquoi tu pleures… ? explores family stories and the ethical issues associated with the distribution of an inheritance “according to individual need”. With humour and accuracy, the play denounces the shortcomings of society, beyond the family initially at the centre of the plot. By subscribing, you will get the best seats (because you get to choose before everybody else) and a special rate for the February 16 and 17 performances. This is a good argument, right ?

4. Should we still have kids today?
Generation Y going through an existential crisis, and actors at the peak of their artistry in a play that they carry from beginning to end. Considering the ecological footprint of a human being, should we still have kids? Is it a responsible choice? The text of Des Arbres is powerful, and the minimalist set allows the words to take on their full power to question our relationship with the environment, with our choices and with their consequences. A tremendous success in Montréal with no fewer than 14 additional performances, this play will be presented in several cities this year, including Vancouver!

5. Tickets for your family and friends
With a subscription, you save up to 15% on the price of a single ticket, and you can change the performance date for free*. And that’s not all! You can introduce a friend to the theatre with a half-price ticket ($15), a nice incentive to help you find a new companion for your evenings out. Additionally, if you choose to see the children’s play Crème-Glacée on April 7, you can invite TWO (yes, two!) children to see it with you for free. It’s a great opportunity to bring joy to the little theatre lovers you know.
