La Seizième wins four Jessie Richardson awards
La Seizième and its artists were honored on Monday at the 37th Jessie Richardson Awards. Four prizes were awarded to them in the “Large Theaters” category for their work on The Soulier production, presented in Vancouver earlier this year.
Last Monday, La Seizième and its artists were celebrated at the 37th Jessie Richardson Awards. Local production Le Soulier (The Shoe), presented earlier this year in Vancouver, brought home four awards in the “Large Theaters” category”.
The entire Vancouver theater community met under the big top at Bard on the Beach to celebrate this year’s best productions and performances. La Seizième, nominated for eight awards, has distinguished itself by winning four of the prestigious Jessie in the “Large Theaters” category for its production Le Soulier, presented at Studio 16 in February 2019. This makes Le Soulier the most awarded production in its category.
The Georgia Straight Oustanding Direction award went to Esther Duquette and Gilles Poulin-Denis, while playwright David Paquet was awarded for Outstanding Original Script. His play was developed as part of the Dramaturgical Development Program of La Seizième. Next, Félix Beauchamp was rewarded for his outstanding performance in a lead role. Finally, Malcolm Dow won the award for Outstanding Sound Design.
Since 2000, Théâtre la Seizième and its artists have won nearly 100 awards or nominations at the Jessie Richardson Awards. These awards are presented annually to Vancouver’s artists, producers and theater companies for their outstanding work.
