A word from the Artistic Director
I’ve often been told that artistic direction, a role as fascinating as it is delicate, is about having one foot in the past, one in the present, and one in the future all at once. Navigating time like this is one of the unique powers that theatre offers. Part-magician, part-tightrope walker; we dream, we dare, we explore, we reflect, we provoke, we reveal, we embody, we fight, we give voice, united and alive.
This 50th anniversary, which also happens to be my first season of programming, is the perfect moment to reflect this conception of theatre. It is with a festive, daring, avant-garde, and contemporary spirit, the hallmark of our company, that I proudly present [résonances].
Choosing this title is no accident; it contains within it a multitude of possibilities to highlight what awaits you. We have prepared an abundant season of programming, full of surprises, spanning all times.
To resonate is to make something last. Throughout the year, we will revisit the history of the company through our reading series ÉCHO(S). Five decades, five key texts from our theatrical repertoire. On stage and behind the scenes, you’ll get to witness artists you know well, while also meeting new faces.
On the menu: À toi, pour toujours, ta Marie-Lou (1975), Violette en avril (1981), Le Polygraphe (1992), Lentement la Beauté (2009), and Lapin Blanc, Lapin Rouge (2016).
To resonate is to provoke a response in someone; it is the effect of something that reverberates within us. Reflecting a wondrous and imperfect present, the main stage productions will spark a world of emotion and exhilaration.
With finesse and plasticity, Franco-Algerian artist Salim Djaferi immerses us in a semantic exploration of the language of violence and colonization in Koulounisation.
Je viendrai moins souvent is a rich journey through memory, where Camille Paré-Poirier reveals her last intimate conversations with her grandmother.
Plunge into a disorienting and enchanting world with De glace, an unprecedented sensory theatrical experience in the heart of the Norwegian winter.
Love transcends seasons… Ce que je sais de vrai sets the stage for the Price’s, a family like a rose, delicate and thorny, asking itself: can you love too deeply?
Merging all the fervor and complexity of youth, our season for children and teenagers brilliantly embodies a youthful energy.
The time for joyous freedom and dissent is here in Une petite fête.
Three teenagers confront their destinies, putting a beaming friendship at risk. Au grand jour reveals the strength of community in the face of bullying.
Our longtime partner UniThéâtre explores themes of change and adaptation when an only child must make room for a little brother in Quand maman sourit.
To resonate is to amplify the voices of tomorrow. It is dear to my heart to promote new voices and innovative practices. Whether through Anaïs West’s exploration in the Nuits claires project, a carte blanche for an emerging artist, or our projects in development—seize the opportunity to participate in the blossoming of a new generation!
There will be no shortage of theatre this season, and I so look forward to seeing you there!
